Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF)
The Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF) is an Indian paramilitary force, deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 km of Indo-China Border. One of the Central Armed Police Forces, Indo Tibetan Border Police Force was established in October 24, 1962. It is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers. ITBPF is the only police force in the country, which possesses expertise in policing the most formidable mountains of the Himalayas. ITBPF is a multi-dimensional force. Besides guarding the border, ITBPF is heavily engaged in fighting terrorism in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, where it has displayed exemplary nerve and gallantry. They also provide security cover to installations and to VIPs in Delhi. The major functions and tasks of Indo Tibetan Border Police Force are : • safeguard the security of borders of India and promote sense of security among the people living in border areas; • prevent trans-border crimes, smuggling, unauthorized entry into or exit from the territory of India .and any other illegal activity; • provide security to sensitive installations, banks, persons of security risk. • restore and preserve order in any area in the event of disturbance. ITBPF personnel are affectionately called as 'Himveers'. The motto of the ITBPF is "Shaurya - Dridata - Karm Nishtha" (i.e Valour - Determination - Devotion to Duty). The ITBPF motto has always inspired its men in accepting challenges to bring glory to the nation and honour to the force. ITBP conducts long range and short range patrols to keep an effective vigil on inaccessible and unmanned areas on the border. To maintain optimum operational efficiency of troops, periodical tactical exercises are conducted independently as well as jointly with Army. Indo-Tibetan Border Police is a force synonym to adventure. Serving in such a force is dare-devilish as well as challenging. Some of the attractive features of the force are - skiing, mountaineering , trekking, river rafting and the thrill of proximity to the mountains. Constable Eligibility ow to Join in ITBPF Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force recruits young candidates at the four levels of • Assistant Commandant • Sub-Inspector • Head Constable • Constable Vacancies are advertised from time to time in all leading newspapers and the Employment News. Like other official jobs, there is a reservation of 15% for members of the Scheduled Caste, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes and 27% for Other Backward Class candidates. The candidates are required to undergo written tests followed by a Physical Efficiency Test, a medical examination and finally an interview. The recruitment process for various post in ITBP is as follows : Assistant Commandant | Sub Inspector | Constable | Other Cadres Assistant Commandant (General Duty) Assistant Commandant (General Duty) is Group 'A' service (Basic pay, Rs.15,600-39,100) Assistant Commandants are recruited by the Combined Special Selection Board constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs through UPSC. Eligibility : Graduate Age Limit : 19 to 25 Relaxation in age For members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes - 5 years Ex-servicemen and demobilized personnel of Armed Forces with not less than 6 months in the Armed Forces - Service rendered in Army, Navy and Air Force plus 03 years Meritorious Sports persons - Up to 5 years. Direct Recruitment of Sub-Inspectors for Central Para Military Forces including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police is done by the Staff Selection Commission by conducting a common examination annually. Constable Constable (General Duty) Indo-Tibetan Border Police conducts recruitment rallies in different parts of the country for enlisting constables. It is the Group 'C' service of ITBPF. (Basic pay, Rs.6,460-20,200). The recruitment of Constable (General Duty) is done by the Staff Selection Commission. Eligibility : Matriculation or 10th Class pass from a recognized Board/University. Note: So far as work experience in trade is concerned, self attestation of required experience will also be accepted. Constable ( Water Carrier / Safai Karamchari / Cook / Washerman / Barber) (For male only) 18 to 25yrs 10th Class pass from a recognized Board. Constable (Pioneer) (Electrician/ Plumber/ Painter/ Welder/ Mason/ Carpenter) (For male only) 18 to 23yrs Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board with - One year’s experience in the trade of Mason or Carpenter or Plumber or Electrician or Welder or Painter. Physical standards : Category Height Weight Chest Eye-Sight General 170cm & above 50kgs(min) 80-85 cms 6/6 to 6/9 Candidates belonging to Garhwal, Kumaon, Himachal Pradesh, Leh & Ladakh, Kashmir Valley, Gorkhas, Marathas, Dogras, Sikkimies and North - Eastern States shall be 165 cms. 165cms - 77-82 cms - For Tribals / Adivasis including Mizos and Nagas 162.5cms - - do - - Method of Selection : Selection process of the constables in ITBPF consists of : • Height Bar Test The candidates will be put through the Height Bar test and qualified candidates will be sent for 5 Km race. • Race (PET) After height bar test, the candidates will be subjected to 5 kilometers race to be completed within 24 minutes. • Physical Standard Test (PST) Candidates, who are qualified in race, will be screened first for height, chest and weight measurements. • Documentation The candidates who qualify in the Physical standard Test will be required to produce all relevant documents, in original only • Biometric verification Finger impression in respect of registered candidates will be captured immediately and will be verified on subsequent recruitment tests to avoid impersonation • Written Test (100 Marks) (i) The candidates who qualify the Documentation stage will be required to appear in a written test. (ii) NON-OMR based multiple choice question paper will be set (Bilinguali.e. in Hindi, English) to assess the general awareness/General Knowledge, Knowledge of Elementary Mathematics, analytical aptitude and ability to observe and distinguish patterns and to test basic knowledge of candidate in English/ Hindi. The question paper will carry 100 objective types multiple choice questions and would carry 100 marks. (iii) Minimum qualifying marks for General and Ex-Servicemen- 35% and for SC/ ST and OBC category candidates is 33% Other Cadres There are a numbers of Technical Cadres viz., Medical, Telecommunication , Para-medical , Engineering, Veterinary, Motor Transport, Education, Clerical, Stenography, Hindi Translator & Tailor etc. Pay scales and perks of various ranks in these cadres are identical to that of General Duty Cadre. Compulsory Rotatory Internship. Assistant Commandant (Engineer) (For Male & Female candidates) 30yrs Degree in Civil Engineering. Assistant Commandant (Veterinary Assistant Surgeon) (For Male & Female candidates) 30yrs Degree in Veterinary service and Animal Husbandry. Assistant Commandant (Telecommunication) (For Male & Female candidates) 30yrs Degree in Telecommunication Engineering Or Electrical Communication Engineering or equivalent. Inspector (Hindi Translator) (For Male & Female candidates) 20 to 30yrs Master’s Degree from a recognized university in Hindi or English with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or as the medium of examination at the degree level. OR Master’s Degree from a recognized university in any subject other than Hindi and English with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as the medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at the degree level. OR Master’s Degree from a recognized university in any subject other than Hindi and English with Hindi or English as the medium of examination and English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subjects or as medium of examination at the degree level. OR Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as the medium of examination and the other as compulsory or elective subject plus a recognized Diploma or Certificate course in Translation from Hindi to English and vice versa or two years experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Department including Government of India Undertakings and working knowledge of computer application or equivalent. Inspector (Staff-Nurse) (For Male & Female candidates) 18 to 25yrs Matric with Registration under Nursing Council. Head Constable (Combatant Ministerial) (For Male & Female candidates) 18 to 25yrs Intermediate or Senior Secondary School Certificate (10+2) examination from a recognized Board or University or equivalent. Other Qualification : a) Typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi only on computer. b) Preference will be given to candidates possessing higher qualifications and having knowledge of basic operation of computer. Head Constable (Telecommunication) (For Male candidates) 18 to 25yrs 10+2 pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics having aggregate of 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognized board or university; or 10th Class pass from a recognized board with two years Industrial Training Institute certificate in Electronics or Electrical or Computer from a recognized Institute; or 10th Class pass from a recognized board with Science (PCM) and with three years Diploma in Electronics or Communication or Instrumentation or Computer Science or Information Technology or Electrical from a recognized Institute.
