Speed Golf

Speed Golf is a variation of golf in which the objective is to complete the course in the fewest possible number of strokes and the fastest time possible. The sport which originated in the United States, is also played in Europe and Japan.   Speed golf is played in regular golf courses.  There rules for speed golf are mostly the same as golf with a few minor changes, which are, Golfers are allowed to putt with the flagstick placed in the hole. Golfers are allowed to wear running shoes. In case a ball gets lost or goes out-of-bounds, it can be played like a lateral hazard. Similar to golf, players are allowed to carry a maximum of 14 clubs, however, most players carry only 4 - 7 clubs. The total score is calculated based on the number of strokes and the total time elapsed. For example, if a player shoots a 90 in 45 minutes the calculated score is 135. If a second player shoots a 93 in 40 minutes, which works out to 133, the second player will be the winner. The popularity of speed golf is negligible when compared to that of golf. Most tournaments conducted for the sport are at a regional level. In 2012 however, a World Championships event was inaugurated for speed golf.
