Power Hockey
Power hockey is a fast paced game of hockey (also called electric wheelchair hockey), which is played by using an electric powered wheelchair. The rules of this sport are similar to the rules of ice hockey, which also favors the disabled people to use an electric wheelchair to play this sport and to stay active in this competitive sport. This sport came into existence by an accident in 1970, when some schools started giving some sports lessons to pupils with disabilities. The children who started to play this game were severely handicapped. This sport was proven to be great for them as it does not require any muscle power. This sport is played on a basketball court instead on an ice court. A plastic ball is used in this sport instead of a hockey puck. The hockey stick used in this sport is also entirely made of plastic. In this sport, goalies have limited ability to move and they also can not freeze the ball, which is why official referee blows the whistle to stop the play when the ball is underneath the goaltender’s wheelchair.
